From the Field: Collaborating to better serve Indigenous communities

An open notebook anchors a round table with microphones and blank papers arranged for a collaborative reporting discussion.

“From the Field: Collaborating to better serve Indigenous communities” is a Professional Development panel on May 24, 2022, at 1:30 PM; location and city are TBA. It examines “At the Crossroads,” published in April by 10 newsrooms to explore representing and reaching Indigenous communities facing generation-defining economic challenges—an INN-supported collaboration previewing signature projects from the Rural News Network, set to fully launch later in 2022. Moderator Dianna Hunt, senior editor at collaboration lead Indian Country Today, joins panelists Mario Koran, Wisconsin Watch investigative reporter, and Anne Thundercloud, Ho-Chunk citizen and public relations consultant, to discuss relationship-building, reporting nuances, outreach that drew responses from people representing more than 130 tribes in 38 states, and how INN members can participate in collaborations, offering information and actionable advice.
