2024 RJI Student Innovation Competition now accepting entries: the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) at the Missouri School of Journalism invites students of any discipline at any U.S. college or university to enter by Oct. 16, 2023. Teams of 1–4 will create an app, game, event, tool or other practical resource helping community newsrooms measure how their coverage affects people’s lives and community engagement; prizes are $10,000 for first, $2,500 for second and $1,000 for third. Finalists present in March 2024 to judges with local journalism and audience-engagement expertise: Ryan Sorrell, founder and executive editor of the Kansas City Defender; Madison Karas, product manager at the Baltimore Banner; and Nahima Ahmed, manager of impact strategy at Science Friday; this Professional Development listing names Reynolds Journalism Institute as organizer and location.
