Redux: Legal Rights and Risks for Journalists

An open reporter’s notebook rests beside a microphone, with a courthouse and indistinct police silhouettes in the background.

Redux: Legal Rights and Risks for Journalists is a virtual livestream workshop on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 2:00–3:30 PM EST, led by Jen Nelson, Director of Pre-Publication Review & Journalist Support at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP). Drawing on RCFP’s expertise and trainings, the session offers journalists concrete, legally grounded news-gathering strategies—especially for interactions with law enforcement—to help them plan ahead, make informed decisions in real time, and protect themselves legally in unpredictable environments. Registration is available for this webinar, part of a broader safety and security series presented in partnership with the International Women’s Media Foundation and generously supported by the Ford Foundation; RCFP does not permit recording of its legal trainings because the shifting legal landscape makes timely, accurate information essential.
