Documenting Stories Safely and Ethically

A documentary camera rests beside two chairs facing each other in a softly lit interview space.

Documenting Stories Safely and Ethically is a Professional Development event hosted by Cinefest Latino Boston and Video Consortium on October 3, 2026, at Emerson Paramount Center, 559 Washington Street, Downtown, Boston, Massachusetts 02111 USA. Starting at 11:30 AM, enjoy a casual breakfast with coffee, tea and treats, meet new storytellers or reconnect with colleagues, and discuss films you’ve watched at Cinefest. At 12:30 PM in the Bright Family Screening Room, Jenny Alexander moderates a panel with Monica Cohen (Dreams of Chonta), Javier Cruz-Ginez (La Esperanza), and Paula Cury (Scarlet Girls) on documentary filmmaking’s ethical dilemmas: thoughtful storytelling, genuine participant relationships and trust, transparency, consent, and everyone’s well-being; tickets for breakfast and the panel are $15, with free admission for VC members using the special discount code.
