Most psychedelic documentaries follow someone to the edge of a crisis and then to a clinic. Australian filmmaker Xavier Rousset asks a different question: what if we didn’t wait for the crisis?
In Vol. II of The Psychedelic Silver Screen, Rousset joins host Jim Tate to discuss A Trip to Transformation, his debut feature. He shot it over four years across three regulatory worlds: Australia’s medical model, Oregon’s supervised adult-use program and the long-running retreat culture of the Netherlands. The film argues that psilocybin’s real promise may lie in proactive wellbeing rather than last-resort treatment. Rousset makes that case on camera, drawing on his own history with depression and anxiety.
